WHAT IS COGNITIVE TASK LOAD?
COGNITIVE TASK LOAD refers to the amount of cognitive workload that should be produced by a typical individual while performing a specified cognitive task. It is based on the aggregate responses of many individuals to the same task. Cognitive task load is a property of the task.
Cognitive task load is derived from the measurement of cognitive workload for many individuals. In practical settings, one is often not so much interested in the workload of individuals but rather in how various tasks differ in the amount of workload they typically elicit. To establish cognitive task loads, it is critical that a sufficient number of subjects be tested on all relevant tasks and that the different task loads be compared using statistical tests.
